Bella

This is Bella and she has a long history.  We got Bella from petfinder.com.  She had a rough life before she found her way to us.

She was found in Kentucky along the side of the road.  A couple and their kids were on the way to church and saw her.  They tried to coach her into their car but she would go towards them and then would go back into the field.  Finally the people followed her into the field to find 6 puppies.  She was being a good mama and not leaving her puppies.

After they got her and her puppies into the car they took her to an animal shelter.  Unknown to the people that found her, the animal shelter they took her and the puppies to was going to put them to sleep.  Before that happened a rescue organization got involved and took Bella and her puppies.

She was passed around from foster home to foster home.  Her puppies were going quickly.  We found her on petfinder and she was in Shippensburg Pennsylvania when we got her.  She was with one of her puppies.  Her puppy was bigger than she was and looked nothing like her.  The description of her on petfinder said she was loving and caring, that does not even begin to describe her.  We are not sure if it is because she has had puppies or had such a hard life on her own fending for herself and the puppies but she is a sweetheart.  She is very calm and just loves people.

When we first got her we had to foster her until she could get spayed.  She had heartworms really bad and they could not complete the procedure until she got completed with the heartworm treatment.  She was also very underweight when we got her.  If you look in our picture gallery under bella you can see pictures when we first got her.  She was tiny.  She is strong and healthy now.

We are not sure of her breed other than she is more lab than anything else, but she is much smaller than a lab and has a little hair thing going on towards her butt that is not a lab hairdo.  She loves to ride in the car and if given the choice between another dog and people, she goes to the people first.  She gets along great with other dogs too.

She only has one bad habit and it is probably because when she was on her own and she had to fend for herself.  We have to be careful where we leave food.  She still has the scavenger instinct in her.  If we are careful and put everything out of reach and empty the trash she is great by herself in the house while we are out.
